Ricoh Asia Pacific embarked on India’s Theni Wind Power Project as part of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) renewal energy effort to reduce CO2 emission

Singapore, 31 July 2013 – Ricoh Asia Pacific Pte Ltd tied up with The Carbon Neutral Company on the Theni Wind Power Project in India. A total of 1,200 tonnes of CO2 emission is purchased to offset approximately 10% of the total CO2 emission consumed by all the sales subsidiaries in Asia Pacific Region in fiscal year 2012.

Located in the state of Tamil Nadu, this project powered at 24.75MW, delivers zero-emissions renewable electricity to the Southern regional grid. This wind farm consists of 15 vestas Vestas-82 turbines, each with a capacity of 1.65MW, generating 55,000MWh of clean renewable electricity annually. This reduces CO2 emissions by displacing electricity which would otherwise have been drawn primarily from fossil fuel power stations; subsequently the project generates 50,000 tonnes of emission reductions on average per year.

Location: The project spread across Jangalpatti, Poomalaikunda, & Seepalakottai villages of Theni district of Tamil Nadu state, India
As this project is powered by wind to generate clean electricity through wind turbines, it does not affect the overall local air quality. For instance, the release of sulfur dioxide or some other solid waste associated with coal-fired power plants, will not happen in this project.
In view of aspects other than just the environmental point of view, this project contributes to the local economy and livelihood of the residents by increasing job opportunities. Other Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes also include launch of local schools and educational programmes to the local children.
Ricoh group recognizes the importance of the CSR values, and will continue to promote sustainable environmental management to ensure that its products undergo the whole product life cycle to reduce the environmental impact and at the same time, create economic value for the investors, clients and employees.
